Retailers plant new products for Earth Day

Retailers are getting behind Earth Day in a big way this month with Disney Stores and FAO Schwarz carving out shelf space for new eco-friendly lines.
Toy Story's three-eyed green alien is starring in a line of products including Save Planet Earth totes, 100% organic cotton tees for kids and adults, reusable aluminum bottles, journals made from recycled paper and organic cotton, as well as an exclusive Toy Story plush alien.
A portion of the proceeds from sales of the line will benefit The Nature Conservancy's Adopt a Coral Reef program. The merchandise, available through Earth Day, is also available at DisneyStore.com.
Disney's "Oceans," a live-action film that promotes awareness of the world's waterways will also arrive in theatres on Earth Day.
GREENZYS is also making an impact over to FAO Schwarz with books and toys available exclusively at the chain and online for the entire month.
Shelves will be brimming with plush toys featuring book-based characters such as Peat the Penguin, an ardent supporter of recycling, reusing and reducing waste; Yew Yew the Panda, who grows bamboo to prevent erosion and create oxygen; Willow the Elephant, who collects rainwater for her plants and uses her trunk as a water hose; and Violet the Giraffe, the ecological genius who teaches the GREENZYS how to reduce their carbon paw print in an effort to protect the environment. Each plush is made from soy fibers and non-toxic dyes with packaging made from recycled paperboard.
A portion of every GREENZYS purchase will benefit the non-profit Environmental Media Association (www.ema-online.org) as well as the Arbor Day Foundation (www.arborday.org) with the planting of a tree for each toy purchase between now and December 31.
Kids can also visit www.greenzys.com, to receive a personalized digital certificate acknowledging their planted tree contribution from the specific GREENZY they’ve purchased.
